Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the season-opening cup on fourteen different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the showdown between the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger found the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille struck two times late to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the final seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 seasons.
